FOUNDER

Jane Meakin

With over forty years of varied and extensive experience in theatre and the arts, Jane is a skilled and dedicated applied theatre practitioner with a high reputation within this field. Holding a strong belief in the power of the arts as a creative learning tool Jane’s passion to offer innovative, fun and challenging opportunities to everyone has always been at the heart of her work.

From 1982 - 2002 Jane was the Founder and Principal of The Mercia School of Performing Arts for ages 3 – 18 years and was responsible for writing schemes of work in line with the requirements for external exams with The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, The Guildhall and The Poetry Society. In addition, Jane was the writer and director of numerous productions performed in a wide variety of settings from professional theatres to residential care homes, including site-specific performances.

Being the Education Co-ordinator at Theatr Clwyd for fifteen years and Director of Theatr Clwyd’s Youth Theatre group, Jane is used to successfully delivering complex multi-partnership projects; providing continuous professional development for teachers and drama tutors and designing, writing and facilitating workshops to support the National Curriculum for primary and secondary sectors.

Having delivered drama workshops and directed productions with children, young people and adults with disabilities and learning differences for over thirty years Jane fully understands the importance of this work in boosting confidence, raising self-esteem, and developing social and performance skills and is fully committed to continuing this element of her work within Purple Platform.

Founding Purple Platform affords Jane the chance to pursue her passion for creating and sharing imagined experiences with young and old, in educational settings or in community spaces as well as providing a base from which to teach and enable anyone to find and use their voice with confidence and gravitas.

Thank you for a absolutely fantastic week of Drama. The students who attended the week benefited from your vast experience, sensitivity and creative drive. Watching several of the students' transformation from timid nervous individuals  into confident, creative participants was a joy to behold.

Your use of the environment as a back drop and stimulus for the drama during the week and use of promenade performance, using the nature reserve as the theatre, was inspirational! I know all who attended and their parents got so much out of the experience and I very much look forward to working with you again in the future
